Fellow Quilters,
Once again I have been invited to participate in the blog tour for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, this time for Volume 9, on sale May 6. I usually scour the issue, scouting out the designs either done by pattern designers who also partner with Northcott to design patterns for our upcoming fabric collections, or designs that feature Northcott fabric collections. Then I recreate these blocks in the fabric collection that Northcott showcases in the advertisement in the issue. This time around there were a whopping 8 blocks! They are #817 Square Dance (designed by Northcott fabric designer Sue Beevers), #818 Triangle Trick (made using Stonehenge), #856 Lavender Lattice (designed by yours truly and made using Lavender Market), #866 Pinwheel Polka (designed by Marilyn Foreman of Quilt Moments), #872 Banner Day (designed by Chris Hoover of Whirligig Designs), #890 Building Blocks (designed by Celine Perkins of Perkins Dry Goods), #894 Face In (made using Passion & Kaleidoscope), and #898 Two Tulips (designed by Margie Ullery of Ribbon Candy Quilt Co.) I thought I would change things up a bit this time around. Since my block was included in this issue, I recreated it in a quilt setting using the Stonehenge Celebration collection featured in the magazine. I came up with 3 different settings: a straight set with alternate blocks, an on-point set with the same alternate blocks, and a setting that starts with the panel in the center and frames it with borders and blocks. Which one do you prefer?
Thank you to all of you who commented on my last blog post. In the post, I talked about fears, and overcoming them. I would say from your comments that my post resonated with many of you, and I was moved by your feedback. Bloggers sometimes feel that they are talking but is anyone really listening? It takes a lot to acknowledge your fears, and to share them with others. I appreciate you sharing yours with me. Many of you commented that you have overcome a fear of, or at least resistance to, free-motion quilting. Many more of you have not quite overcome this fear. Good News! I can help!! In every blog post this year (and maybe next), I will give you a tip, hint, or advice on free-motion quilting. Tonight before I sat down to write this post, I was preparing for a free-motion quilting class that I am teaching tomorrow to the guild in Beaverton. Pretty much all of my quilting these days is done on my longarm, but as I was preparing my samples, I recalled the many quilts that I quilted on my sewing machine. Tomorrow I will try to ease the fears and frustration of the students as we work through various techniques.
So, my first piece of advice is… read every issue of Quiltmaker magazine this year. June Dudley and her staff have called 2014 the Year of Machine Quilting, and each issue contains helpful tips and hints for machine quilting. Even those of us who have been machine quilting for 20 years can learn from these issues. I plan on following along with contributor Natalia Bonner as she guides us through various techniques. Won’t you join me?
My next piece of advice is… practice, practice, practice. Anyone can free-motion quilt with enough practice. Anyone! Check out the clearance table at your favorite quilt shop and pick up a couple of crib-size panels. Quilt them to death – try every technique you can think of until you feel comfortable with it. Quilt around every motif on the panels. Focus on achieving a consistent stitch length. Practice different background fillers such as stipple in all of the open areas. Quilt every square inch of those panels. When you are done, take a look at where you started, and notice how much you have improved. Yes you have!
Okay, time to talk about giveaways. I randomly chose a winner from the comments posted on my last post- congrats to Kimberlee who is trying her hand at making some clothes. Kimberlee will receive a delicious bundle of Artisan Spirit Shimmer fabrics. Today’s giveaway is a copy of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 9, and some Stonehenge Celebration fabric too. For a chance to win, please comment on which of the 3 Stonehenge Celebration quilts you prefer. Please post your comment by end of day on May 1. And don’t forget to visit the rest of the blogs in the blog tour. Details at http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/
Cheers,
Patti

#1 for me. I really like the layout. Of course I love a star of any kind. The colors are wonderful!

    • Judy Kowalski April 29, 2014 at 8:38 am #

Personally, I love the blocks set on point, as I think on point always adds another dimension of interest to a quilt. Patti…thanks for showing us not one, but three variations. You are always an inspiration to fellow quilters!

  2. Julie B April 29, 2014 at 3:22 am #

I liked the first quilt with the straight set blocks.

  3. Anita April 29, 2014 at 3:28 am #

I prefer the top one, #1. The layout is just perfect.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. Phyllis M April 29, 2014 at 3:51 am #

I love the way you used the same block and switched it up with the different settings to make completely different quilts.

  5. Beth T. April 29, 2014 at 4:03 am #

I like #1 the most–I think it has to do with the lattice appearance across the quilt. Thanks for showing the different possibilities and congrats on being included in this issue.

  6. christl April 29, 2014 at 5:15 am #

They are all lovely! But most I like the second one! Great work!
Best wishes and thank you for sharing!

  7. Nancy April 29, 2014 at 6:21 am #

I like the first one best. Love quilt squares set on point. Thanks for the giveaway

  8. Joyce Mitchell April 29, 2014 at 6:30 am #

The Celebration Panel quilt is my favorite of the three, though all are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing & thanks for the chance to win.

  9. jaaverill@aol.com April 29, 2014 at 6:40 am #

    #1 is my favorite. Thanks

  10. stellagray2013 April 29, 2014 at 6:41 am #

Definitely number 1. The straight set shows off the secondary design to full advantage, Love these collections

  11. Carol Kunkel April 29, 2014 at 6:41 am #

Celebration straight set, #1 is a great big WOW for me! When I opened the link and saw the quilt it took my breath away. That Celebration literally took my breath away!!! 🙂 All three are wonderful. Number one is fabulous!

  12. SuzK April 29, 2014 at 6:42 am #

I really like the “on-point” layout – that seems to sparkle – the fabric is really lovely too. Thank you for presenting 3 different layouts and for the chance to win.

  13. nataliesgrandma April 29, 2014 at 6:49 am #

This was a hard choice. I guess if I had to choose, I would choose the panel quilt but I really liked all three. Thanks for the encouragement about machine quilting. I’m still at that beginning stage where it looks awful but I know to keep practicing. Practice makes better.

  14. Mary April 29, 2014 at 6:50 am #

They are all lovely but I like #3 the best. Love the idea of practice free motion quilting on a baby panel. Will have to try that.

  15. Karen B. April 29, 2014 at 7:02 am #

I like the “on-point” version. I really like the fabric choice too.

  16. Carol J April 29, 2014 at 7:02 am #

Hi Patti! I guess I would have to choose the straight set layout (the one on top) as my favourite. I do really like the panel setting too, but I would LOVE to see it in a Canadian version! There never seems to be enough Canadian inspired collections for our Military… guess I might have to subscribe to Quiltmaker – don’t often see that one around here. Thanks for sharing Patti!

  17. kaybee60 April 29, 2014 at 7:04 am #

I like the Celebration version of the quilt. The panel in the middle really “completes” the quilt!

  18. Kathryn M April 29, 2014 at 7:18 am #

    I like the on point

  19. Donna April 29, 2014 at 7:19 am #

I think I like the first one shown, although given enough time it would be fun to make all of them. Thanks for sharing and thanks for sponsoring!!

  20. Fran Cummings April 29, 2014 at 7:20 am #

The panel version is my favorite, but I like all three very much. I’ m adding your blog to my Blogshelf. Can always use more machine quilting info.

  21. bjday68 April 29, 2014 at 7:20 am #

Thank you for the comments on free motion quilting. I needed to hear this. I like all your quilts, but I prefer the Celebration Panel. Thanks for a chance to win!

  22. Susan April 29, 2014 at 7:23 am #

I love them all! But, if I had to choose one, it would have to be the Celebration straight-set quilt.

  23. Margaret hawkes April 29, 2014 at 7:28 am #

I love the block but I think my favourite layout is the straight set one.

  24. Kris Walter April 29, 2014 at 7:30 am #

I prefer the on point one but better yet I loved the idea you gave in your information regarding picking up a baby quilt and machine quilting it to death to get more and more practice. I will definitely do that to help learn.

  25. Diane Paul April 29, 2014 at 7:30 am #

l like the on point version the best. The block looks unique even though it isn’t.

  26. Debi Horne April 29, 2014 at 7:34 am #

Hello, I love all three, but the Celebration on-point one stands out for me. Thanks for the chance to win!

  27. sjhughson1 April 29, 2014 at 7:37 am #

I like the panel quilt b/c it is one I could practice my LA quilting on. LOL

  28. Rosie Davis April 29, 2014 at 7:38 am #

I too like them all but I would pick the one on point. There is something about on point quilts that draw my attention. Thanks for the giveaway.

  29. sjhughson1 April 29, 2014 at 7:39 am #

I like the panel quilt. It would be fun to practice my LA quilting on it.

  30. AryaForel April 29, 2014 at 7:41 am #

For me the best was the number 1, Celebration straight-set quilt.

  31. Carol Stearnsc April 29, 2014 at 7:42 am #

I would be happy with any of the fabrics! I would love to win and looking forward to the blog tour!

  32. Carol Kussart April 29, 2014 at 7:48 am #

You have given us a hard choice to make… they are all lovely! However, since I have to choose one, I will say the Celebration straight setting. I like the diagonal chain effect of the individual squares you set in. Thanks for sharing, for the FMQ advice, and for the give-away!

  33. Denise W April 29, 2014 at 7:48 am #

All three are wonderful. I really would have to chose #3. I love fireworks and all things patriotic. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  34. vwlady54Janet Frank April 29, 2014 at 7:49 am #

I’m a real fan of “on point” settings for quilts. And your right about practice being the most important factor when it comes to FMQ!

  35. tonwheeler101 April 29, 2014 at 7:50 am #

Celebration straight-set quilt is quite lovely. I’ve yet to figure out to do “on-point” quilts. Learning slowly, but love it.

  36. Lorrie Bennett April 29, 2014 at 7:56 am #

    Celebration on-point quilt
I am fairly new to quilting and the more I look at things the more things I like. Its nice to see multiple layouts.

  37. debbierhodes April 29, 2014 at 8:02 am #

Celebrations on point. All are great.

  38. Diane O April 29, 2014 at 8:02 am #

On point layout is my preference. They are all beautiful!

  39. Lisa Marie April 29, 2014 at 8:03 am #

I like the straight set quilt the best. Strangely, it’s the diagonal movement in that one that appeals to me. You would think an on-point setting would have the diagonal movement, but not with this block. Interesting…

  40. ElaineBlunt April 29, 2014 at 8:04 am #

Love them all but Celebration has my attention!

  41. Mary D April 29, 2014 at 8:08 am #

Patti I really like the panel quilt. I recently purchased an “Americana” type jelly roll to begin to make my first quilt of valor. I am looking forward to my project..

  42. jenetamasson April 29, 2014 at 8:10 am #

I love the straight set quilt!

  43. Dee April 29, 2014 at 8:11 am #

Loving #1, but all are great, thanks for all the inspirational layouts!

  44. Denise April 29, 2014 at 8:14 am #

I prefer block #1 (straight set) Im a traditionalist! lol and I do appreciate your reminder to practice. It takes time but it is worth it in the end 🙂

  45. Sandi April 29, 2014 at 8:16 am #

They are all beautiful!!! Guess I would go with #1 with #3 as a close second.

  46. Shawn Dowdy April 29, 2014 at 8:22 am #

#1 for me. I like the sense of movement in this design the best – although all 3 beautiful!

  47. Allison Evrard April 29, 2014 at 8:22 am #

I love the panel quilt. Lots of impact! But I love the others as well.

  48. Jeanne April 29, 2014 at 8:30 am #

Like them all, but choose #3 for the favorite.

  49. Kris S in WI April 29, 2014 at 8:36 am #

I like No.1 the best. Thanks for some great ideas for soldier quilts.

  50. JuliaP April 29, 2014 at 8:37 am #

Love all three of them but my favorite is number 3. I think it would make a great Quilt of Valor for my brother!

  51. Carole M April 29, 2014 at 8:43 am #

My favorite is the On Point setting.

  52. Angela Brady April 29, 2014 at 8:43 am #

    I like Celebration on Point

  53. Sherry Whalen April 29, 2014 at 8:49 am #

Hard choice – but I think I like #1, the straight set. Loved them all!

  54. cwienstroer April 29, 2014 at 8:51 am #

I like the straight set the best. But they all show what can be done with great ideas & fabrics.

  55. Glenna Sue Savage April 29, 2014 at 8:52 am #

I think I like the on point version, but hey all are beautiful. . . Love the fabric

  56. Donna I April 29, 2014 at 8:52 am #

All of them are stirring and exciting. However, I think the one on point would be fun to make…….especially for a vet or current service person.

  57. Bette Wilson April 29, 2014 at 8:52 am #

I enjoy all of them, but I prefer the panel quilt. The material is beautiful and the panel is emphasized by the the surrounding blocks. Thank you for sharing your blocks.

  58. Linda in Iowa April 29, 2014 at 8:54 am #

I like the Celebration Straight Set. I like the diagonal feeling it gives. You can never go wrong using Stonehenge. Thank you for the chance to enter.

  59. Zeynep April 29, 2014 at 8:58 am #

All are beautiful, but I really liked the straight-set quilt (first one)

  60. beckyrab April 29, 2014 at 9:04 am #

I love patriotic quilts so I liked all 3 quilts, but since I make quilts for veterans, The Celebration Panel quilt caught my eye. It is attractive, but would sew up quickly. Thanks so much for the hint to practice machine quilting on baby quilt panels. That I could do! I could also then donate them to our guild service project. I love multi-tasking!

  61. Rita Brown April 29, 2014 at 9:05 am #

I like #1, the Straight-Set the best. All are beautiful, but #1 looks the neatest to me.

  62. Betty April 29, 2014 at 9:10 am #

I like the layout of #2. I am so excited to start a new hobby that is so addicting that you want to do it all the time!

  63. Heike S April 29, 2014 at 9:11 am #

Die drei Quilts sind wirklich wunderschön. Am besten gefällt mir die Nummer 1. Vielen Dank für die Möglichkeit zu gewinnen.

  64. Terri April 29, 2014 at 9:12 am #

I’m not a ‘panel person’, however, I love the flag panel and will have to go for that quilt!

  65. Vicky April 29, 2014 at 9:12 am #

#3 is my pick. I’m drawn to the big picture of the flag. It makes this quilt appeal to me as a 4th of July celebration picnic quilt. One to watch the fireworks with. Thank you for the giveaway.

  66. Jean April 29, 2014 at 9:14 am #

I like the first one also. I also really like your block, Thanks

  67. Janene Nelson April 29, 2014 at 9:15 am #

i like the straight set of the first one best… celebration comes in second 🙂

  68. Becky (central oregon) April 29, 2014 at 9:19 am #

I keep coming back to the panel setting… I guess if your going to “wave the flag” so to speak with red white and blue then Wave the flag!!!!

  69. Lucienne schroepfer April 29, 2014 at 9:21 am #

    I like # 2 — more peaceful.

  70. LeAnn Eastman April 29, 2014 at 9:22 am #

I like the panel best, but all are stunning. Thanks for the great ideas!!

  71. joanne April 29, 2014 at 9:24 am #

    Cheers Patti,
Your work is amazing and you make this hard, I think maybe #2.
Thanks for chance to be a winner.

  72. glorybquilts April 29, 2014 at 9:25 am #

I love the one that is on point. I am partial to this type of setting though, as it is more interesting. The labels are not with the correct photos, though I think.

  73. LeAnne L April 29, 2014 at 9:26 am #

I like #1, the straight set quilt, because it looks like it’s on point.

  74. Delaine April 29, 2014 at 9:27 am #

My favorite is the Celebrations straight set quilt. It just appeals to me. Thanks!

  75. glorybquilts April 29, 2014 at 9:27 am #

Oops, on closer inspection, the labels are correct, it’s the combination of blocks that makes it look like it’s on point. Sorry, now I’m not sure if I like #1 or #2 better….hmmmm

  76. Karlyn April 29, 2014 at 9:28 am #

I really like the panel quilt style! It would make a great 4th of July banner or even a table cloth (of course I would cover it with plastic if I used it that way!)

  77. Lauren aka Giddy99 April 29, 2014 at 9:33 am #

I like the straight set (because it looks like it’s on-point)! 🙂

  78. Mary Ehrhardt April 29, 2014 at 9:36 am #

I love the Panel quilt! So explosive and patriotic!!

  79. Pat Blanchette April 29, 2014 at 9:36 am #

I really like all three, but my favorite is the straight set one.

  80. empress223 April 29, 2014 at 9:39 am #

Yep, #1! Stars and a straight set that looks on point, how fun is that? Would love to win.

  81. Peggy April 29, 2014 at 9:41 am #

Hi Patti, I like the on point version the best, but being Canadian, would love to see a red and white version.

  82. lindaj April 29, 2014 at 9:42 am #

Wow, they all look great. I like the on point version best because the four patch square really pop.

  83. Tamra Hovingh April 29, 2014 at 9:44 am #

I love first one! The panel one is second favorite. Looks like a fun one to make!!

  84. Shirley April 29, 2014 at 9:45 am #

#2, on-point….more movement and looks more complicated.

  85. bobbiesews Bobbie Campbell April 29, 2014 at 9:49 am #

I’m partial to straight settings- have no confidence with the setting triangles. Thanks for the giveaway.

  86. Jean April 29, 2014 at 9:51 am #

I like the first one shown. It is labeled straight set, but looks on point????

  87. bobbiesews April 29, 2014 at 9:52 am #

I like #1 best with #3 as a 2nd choice. Not partial to setting triangles. But I like the diagonal look to the “chain” element.

  88. Anne Oelke April 29, 2014 at 9:54 am #

I really like the straight set with those diagonal lines.

  89. Kelly Wilson April 29, 2014 at 9:55 am #

I like the on point version. I prefer the grid pattern it creates over the diagonal lines on the straight set. However, both are lovely! Thanks for the opportunity.

    very inspiring! thx!

  91. Linda Enneking April 29, 2014 at 9:57 am #

I like the Straight set Celebrations quilt best. The diagonal lines are what I like about it.

  92. Jenn April 29, 2014 at 9:59 am #

I like the 1st one, and as Lauren said, it’s the one that looks “on-point” to me.

  93. eswatniki April 29, 2014 at 10:00 am #

I really like #1 the best. All are lovely but #1 catches my eye. Thank-you for the opportunity!

  94. Kim April 29, 2014 at 10:00 am #

I like the first one the best :0) I do love when the squares take your eye across the quilt in that nice pattern.
Thanks for the chance to win and
    Happy Sewing

  95. utahoosier April 29, 2014 at 10:01 am #

My favorite is #2, on point. So fun! Congrats on making it into the publication again and thank you for sponsoring the giveaway.

  96. Darlene April 29, 2014 at 10:08 am #

I like setting #2 because I am not comfortable with diagonal setting.

  97. Deborah DeBerry April 29, 2014 at 10:08 am #

I like the Celebration straight set quilt. I’m not very good at doing on point and the straight set looks like on point.

  98. Marlene April 29, 2014 at 10:12 am #

Thank you for your comments on free motion quilting – I’ve been doing my own quilting for a couple of years and while I’ve seen progress I’m still not happy with what I’m doing. I need to be a bit bold and try some new designs! I usually prefer on point quilts but this time I really love your straight set. blessings, marlene

  99. scrapquilter April 29, 2014 at 10:13 am #

Thanks for your tips. I look forward to hearing from you more

    I like #1 best, foll0wed by #2.

  101. maggielou April 29, 2014 at 10:17 am #

I love number 1 the best if I have to choose. Thank you for all the advice. I never thought of just practicing on baby quilt panels. I have been just practicing on my quilts that I make and love it but I really am not very good at it yet.

  102. Christy Paquette April 29, 2014 at 10:18 am #

I love the Celebration Panel quilt. Although they are all Beautiful!

They are all amazing but my favorite? I really like #1

  107. Betty Beaumont April 29, 2014 at 10:27 am #

#1, the straight set. I like the way it creates the diagonal lattice effect. Thank you for you word of encouragement regarding machine quilting…I need more practice.

  108. Susan April 29, 2014 at 10:29 am #

I love to collect quilting books and dream of the time to make them all. Thanks for all the good ideas

I like the straight set Celebration version. Thanks for all you do. I also am a Stonehenge groupie.

Thanks for showing all three. These look like they could be great valor quilts!

  113. Kathy Tabb April 29, 2014 at 10:36 am #

I like number 1! I love the classic look.

  119. Ellen April 29, 2014 at 10:45 am #

I like the first Celebration quilt. You say it is straight set, but being a new quilter it looks on point to me.

  120. Sylvia Anderson April 29, 2014 at 10:46 am #

My favorite is the Celebration with Panel. It is made with beautiful fabrics, very bright, and, most of all, extremely patriotic looking, which we need to display and be proud of the fact that we are Americans.

  121. Sharon April 29, 2014 at 10:48 am #

#1, the Celebration straight set quilt, is the one I like the best. I like the angular look.

  122. cjj April 29, 2014 at 10:48 am #

I like them all but the Celebration straight set quilt is my favorite of the three. Can’t really say why, it just a bit more appealing to me.

  123. Kathy April 29, 2014 at 10:50 am #

I think I like Celebration On Point the best. Hard to choose between #1 & #2

  124. Sue Halter April 29, 2014 at 10:54 am #

    I like #1. Great block!

  125. Joyce Kay April 29, 2014 at 10:56 am #

I like number 1 but they are all very nice. I really like it when a designer shows more than one way to use blocks.

  126. Linda E in AZ April 29, 2014 at 11:01 am #

Love the panel quilt – makes me think of the 4th of July!
    thanks!

  127. Peg April 29, 2014 at 11:03 am #

I love the on point layout!

  128. Diana W. April 29, 2014 at 11:04 am #

How great your blocks and the quilt ideas, sew creative

  129. Susan Kick April 29, 2014 at 11:08 am #

While they are all lovely I prefer the Celebration-on Point quilt . For me as I am learning to quilt I am also learning about shape and directions. I am constantly surprised at just how strong I feel about liking or disliking particular patterns/shapes. I learn something new every day 🙂

  130. Carol D. Kaplan April 29, 2014 at 11:09 am #

I vote for the first setting. It has the look of a more complicated “on point” design without all the tricky bias blocks. As a longarm quilter, I can REALLY appreciate that! Congratulations on a great block design; I can hardly wait to get my hands on the newest volume of 100 Blocks to check it out up close.

  131. Debby E April 29, 2014 at 11:13 am #

I love the Celebration Panel quilt – Awesome! Thanks so much for the chance to win 🙂

  132. Carol Eicke April 29, 2014 at 11:15 am #

I love all three of your versions – I think maybe the straight-set one best. Glad I found your blog on the tour!

  133. Susan April 29, 2014 at 11:16 am #

It’s a tie between the straight set and the on point.

  134. Sue S April 29, 2014 at 11:16 am #

I like #1 best, because it has diagonal movement without bias setting triangles to deal with.

  135. Claudia April 29, 2014 at 11:17 am #

My first thought before I read any of the post was “Quilt of Valor”. Any veteran would be thrilled to receive any one of these, but the second one would take the fewest blocks, so that translates into “getting finished”. I know the panel in #3 would take even fewer, but I vote for #2. Thanks for the inspiration.

I just used some Stonehenge fabric in a quilt recently, and it is very nice.

  136. Carolyn Barnett April 29, 2014 at 11:19 am #

So many gorgeous quilts to choose from that it is quite hard to choose! I think I like the Celebration on Point as it makes the block look more complex even though it appears to be simple to make. It reminds me of quilts made in the early 90’s by the designer Marsha McClosky. I would like to try the block and set it in either a strippy set or a half block drop set. Gorgeous and thank you for a chance to win!!

  137. Heather Sanders April 29, 2014 at 11:20 am #

I love the first one. The straight blocks really pop and the diagonal lines pull it all together.

  138. Terry April 29, 2014 at 11:22 am #

My favorite is the straight set. Thanks for the sweet giveaway!

  139. Deb Hiedeman April 29, 2014 at 11:26 am #

Well, if forced to choose, I like the on point Celebration. But they are all gorgeous!

  140. Bonnie April 29, 2014 at 11:28 am #

I love the Celebration straight-set quilt. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  141. Sheryl Andrews April 29, 2014 at 11:28 am #

Celebration Panel Quilt #3 has my vote. It sings with energy and the “rockets red glare.” A perfect patriotic celebration for the Fourth of July spirit.

  142. pam April 29, 2014 at 11:29 am #

i ALWAYS choose the on-point version of any quilt. i love the way it makes a block look. thnx for the giveaway!!

  143. Sherry VF April 29, 2014 at 11:31 am #

You are certainly committed to the ‘100 Blocks’ magazine! I have vol. 8 and really enjoy it. As for your three quilt versions, I’m a sucker for on-point settings, so, that is my favorite. svonfumetti at yahoo dot com

  144. Dorothy Holt April 29, 2014 at 11:33 am #

I like the straight set. Love the fabric!

  145. Paula Hidalgo April 29, 2014 at 11:35 am #

Number 1 for me…love that layout.

  146. Barb Johnson April 29, 2014 at 11:38 am #

I hate it when I’m asked to choose between two or three options. They are all beautiful! The best I can do is eliminate setting #3, and that is only because I don’t prefer to use panels. But I like the way you used the blocks as a border for the panel. Darn, back to square 1!

  147. Kim S April 29, 2014 at 11:39 am #

I love the Celebration straight set the best.

  148. cynthia April 29, 2014 at 11:50 am #

The first one seems the most dynamic to me, even though it’s a straight set,

  149. Robin Johnson April 29, 2014 at 11:56 am #

I like number 3 the panel one. Super for July decorations

  150. Deb G April 29, 2014 at 11:57 am #

Classic has always appealed to me, so # 1. Then of course picking the right fabric and colors are so important, but harder for me.

  151. purlbuttons April 29, 2014 at 11:57 am #

I really like the straight set on, #1. I think it is the balance of it that appeals to me.

  152. Cindy April 29, 2014 at 11:59 am #

I too liked the straight set #1 the best because of the diagonal “on point” look of it. I had to look closer to realize that the labels were correct!

  153. Jane B April 29, 2014 at 12:00 pm #

I like the setting in #1, but the panel is also great and would make a wonderful start for a Quilt of Valor.

  154. buntyw April 29, 2014 at 12:04 pm #

I like the straight set version!

  155. Jan Johnson April 29, 2014 at 12:07 pm #

Personally the on-point celebration attracts my eye and fits most with my style. I will say however that Patriotic fabrics are my ultimate fun to work with. Even when I do a sample there is always a piece of patriotism sewn into my quilts somewhere. It’s a quirk of mine I can’t seem to shake. Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue.

  156. Jennifer April 29, 2014 at 12:07 pm #

I really love the Celebration panel quilt. I love panels but seem to have quilters block when imagining what to do with them. Thank you very much for the inspiration!

  157. tanagriz April 29, 2014 at 12:13 pm #

I really like the second setting!

  158. regina April 29, 2014 at 12:17 pm #

Love the 2nd one – it seems to make the stars pop and is less busy than the other 2

  159. monica sisk April 29, 2014 at 12:19 pm #

I really like the #2 setting, though it was close between it and #1. In the end the complex look of 2 won out.

  160. Donna W April 29, 2014 at 12:21 pm #

They are all lovely, but I would go with #1. Like the diagonals squares that make it look like it is on-point.

  161. Penny April 29, 2014 at 12:23 pm #

I love the ‘on point’ style the most, and I believe it is because it looks exactly the opposite. Usually I like the more diamond design on point produces, but I think I like the lacy effect created by the squares/diamonds that are not the actual star. Very cool pattern by the way. It’s amazing how dramatic a difference the designs create based on placement.

  162. Kristi April 29, 2014 at 12:32 pm #

I love all three versions but #1 is my favorite. Thanks for the giveaway!
    k(dot)castanette(at)hotmail(dot)com

  163. Ann Rudd April 29, 2014 at 12:34 pm #

I like the first one, but I like the others too!

  164. Marie Chat April 29, 2014 at 12:35 pm #

I like #1 as I’m always partial to the Irish Chain look in between blocks and of course you can never go wrong with stars in my book! Great settings and yummy fabrics ~ Thanks for the giveaway!

  165. Margaret Andrews April 29, 2014 at 12:37 pm #

I really like the on-point quilt. I just discovered the formula for setting up the on point and now I can do them with no fear….that is so good.

  166. Cathie April 29, 2014 at 12:44 pm #

I really like the straight set layout. Very pretty!

  167. Missy April 29, 2014 at 12:48 pm #

The straight set version is my favorite!

  168. Maryruth April 29, 2014 at 12:58 pm #

My favorite is the straight set quilt. Beautiful use of a great block!

  169. Dana Gaffney April 29, 2014 at 1:01 pm #

I really like on point, they always seem to flow better to me, they’re all beautiful.

  170. Joanna April 29, 2014 at 1:04 pm #

I think I like Celebration on point best, but it also looks neat around the panel. Great block. I FMQ on my home machine and sometimes it works wonderfully, and sometimes not. But when it works, it’s very gratifying.

  171. Donna Joy April 29, 2014 at 1:11 pm #

Stonehenge Little girls is my favorite as I am waiting for my first granddaughter. Thanks.

  172. Colette April 29, 2014 at 1:12 pm #

I like the straight set quilt it looks so intricate, and would be a great QOV

  173. Jenelle Boxberger April 29, 2014 at 1:19 pm #

This is a fun blog tour, thanks for putting my name in the drawing. I like number 1 setting the best, but I also like all of them. I’m a sucker for anything red/white/blue.

  174. Deb April 29, 2014 at 1:28 pm #

I like the straight set layout because I love all the connecting blocks.

  175. PJB April 29, 2014 at 1:30 pm #

I like the onpoint quilt best. I think the top one was onpoint although it was labelled straight set.

  176. Sue Hook April 29, 2014 at 1:30 pm #

I like the straight set quilt the best – they are all beautiful. I really like the patriotic look. Thanks for your tips on machine quilting.

  177. barb April 29, 2014 at 1:31 pm #

I like the straight set best; it is amusing that the straight set with the alternate block gives an appearance of onpoint and the onpoint with the alternate block creates a square appearance.

  178. Angelia L. April 29, 2014 at 1:32 pm #

All three are really gorgeous but #1 is my favorite! I love red/white/blue!

    • Anna April 29, 2014 at 2:14 pm #

      # 1 is my favorite. I really like them all.

  179. Cathy S. April 29, 2014 at 1:36 pm #

I love the on point version !! It really pops!

I like the straight set layout as I like the way the different angles play together. Thanks for the great ideas.

  183. Barbara Woods April 29, 2014 at 1:41 pm #

I like them all but like the onpoint one the best

  184. Lisa M April 29, 2014 at 1:42 pm #

I really like the Celebration panel quilt, although all of them are lovely. I think all of these quilts would be perfect for Quilts of Valor.

  187. Diana Scott April 29, 2014 at 1:47 pm #

They are all beautiful but I like the celebration panel quilt the best.

  188. Cindy T April 29, 2014 at 1:48 pm #

I like the straight set best because it actually looks like it is on point from design.

  189. Mary Dahlberg April 29, 2014 at 1:50 pm #

The on point setting is my favorite. Thank You for the blog and opportunity to win.

  190. Linda Jacobs April 29, 2014 at 1:52 pm #

I love the panel setting. Usually panel quilts are pretty boring, but this one is quite eye-catching. By the way, I absolutely love the Artisan Shimmer line and have already purchased enough for a quilt. I’m thinking of using it in the wedding quilt for my oldest grandson.

  191. Denise Inman April 29, 2014 at 1:54 pm #

Like a lot of people, I like #1, the straight set BECAUSE it looks “on point” with the beautiful diagonals. I feel it gives a sense of movement because your eyes follow the line.

  192. Jill Hicks April 29, 2014 at 1:58 pm #

I like the straight set quilt best, but it was hard to choose.

  193. Susan Paxton April 29, 2014 at 2:03 pm #

I love the on-point , I have been wanting to try an on-point. Love them all though. Thanks for a chance to win.

  194. Sue in Scottsdale, AZ April 29, 2014 at 2:15 pm #

I love all the layouts but I am especially drawn to #1 – the straight set. The panel is gorgeous but I normally prefer to piece the entire quilt. I love red/white/blue quilts and make lots of QOVs.

  195. Gloria Gunderson April 29, 2014 at 2:16 pm #

The quilt using the panel in the center is my favorite. Thanks for the chance to win.

  196. Trena J April 29, 2014 at 2:21 pm #

    All wonderfully done. Thank you

  197. gaylemitchel April 29, 2014 at 2:30 pm #

Ouch! Too much thinking on just one cup of coffee. Had to go back and look but finally decided I prefer Layout #1 due to the diagonal secondary pattern created. Love the block and RWB colors. Congrats on being published in Vol. 9 and thank you for the chance to win.

  198. patricia April 29, 2014 at 2:31 pm #

I love the straight set but the other two are great also!

  199. Kathleen D. April 29, 2014 at 2:34 pm #

I prefer the Panel quilt because of its use of the American flag and the visible fireworks. I do like them all though.

  200. Brenda E. April 29, 2014 at 2:34 pm #

The on-point set was what I immediately drawn to!

  201. Nancy Roraback April 29, 2014 at 2:36 pm #

My vote is for number one, beautiful.

  207. Diantha Howard April 29, 2014 at 2:59 pm #

I like the straight-set one best — I like how the diagonals formed!
    Thanks for the giveaway chance!
(And I do like the hints on machine quilting in Quiltmaker magazine.)

  208. A Rose in Texas April 29, 2014 at 3:02 pm #

I love the impact of the panel quilt used as a wall hanging. I think it would inspire many non-quilters, hanging in city hall or their local public library, to remember the many freedoms our country enjoys

  209. myzbarb April 29, 2014 at 3:14 pm #

My favorite is the panel quilt!

  210. Lynda April 29, 2014 at 3:15 pm #

I like the straight layout best for these blocks.

  212. Cynthia Knapp April 29, 2014 at 3:22 pm #

  213. Judy April 29, 2014 at 3:25 pm #

I like all of them but my favorite is the straight set one as it ended up looking like an on point setting.

  214. Ruthie peterburg April 29, 2014 at 3:27 pm #

My choice would be #2, to me it makes the blocks really stand out, it’s gorgeous.

  215. GCong April 29, 2014 at 3:31 pm #

They are all pretty great and really make me want sit on a porch swing drinking sweet tea. Layout #1 adds to the carefree attitude. I love it. Thank you for the post.

  218. Kathryn Phillips April 29, 2014 at 3:41 pm #

I like the straight set (on top) quilt the most. The blocks are great and I like the lattice work in it too. I can see this quilt in different themes, I think a Christmas and Thanksgiving theme quilt would look great with this pattern.

  219. Shari Kersey April 29, 2014 at 4:03 pm #

I like the on-point the best.

  220. Nancy April 29, 2014 at 4:09 pm #

  221. karyn April 29, 2014 at 4:15 pm #

I think I liked the panel the best (which is very odd for me), but I think either of the others would make an awesome backside (or vice versa if need be LOL)!

I like the on point setting the best. Thanks for the chance to win.

Number one I love the most. Thanks for the chance!

  237. Melanie Kennedy April 29, 2014 at 5:28 pm #

I like the first view the best. I’m a bit hesitant of putting blocks on point and dealing with the side triangles. Love the fabric and excited by the book.

  238. Claudia April 29, 2014 at 5:29 pm #

    The panel quilt is stunning.

  239. Margaret Higgins April 29, 2014 at 5:30 pm #

  240. farmquilter April 29, 2014 at 5:34 pm #

    Love, love, love the panel!!

  245. Debbie P April 29, 2014 at 5:57 pm #

I like #1 the best. With the diagonal setting, it invites the viewer’s eyes to scan across the whole from corner to corner which makes it look and feel more interesting and artistic. It exhibits creativity with the more fluid and flowing diagonal lines that enhance and frame the block design.

  246. Lois LaPointe April 29, 2014 at 5:59 pm #

I like the Celebration straight set. Thanks for the chance to win!

  247. Lisa E April 29, 2014 at 6:31 pm #

I like both #1 and #2, but #1 edges out. Thanks for the giveaway.

  248. Shar April 29, 2014 at 6:45 pm #

I don’t have many panel quilts, so it would be fun to have a panel quilt.

  249. LoriL April 29, 2014 at 6:48 pm #

I like the panel quilt. It might be kind of fun to make the stars smaller and use it for a door banner. They are all great for displaying for the 4th of July.

  250. Joyce Carter April 29, 2014 at 6:58 pm #

All of them look great but I like the one set on point. Thanks for the giveaway.

  251. AnnieH April 29, 2014 at 7:05 pm #

I think the panel setting is my favorite – if the dimensions are correct, it might make a nice Quilt of Valor for some lucky service person!

  252. Vivian April 29, 2014 at 7:13 pm #

I like the straight set best. Thanks for the giveaway.

  253. Laura April 29, 2014 at 7:14 pm #

I like the on point one because of the white.

  254. Jan April 29, 2014 at 7:16 pm #

They are all very pretty. My favorite is #1 Celebration straight-set quilt.

  255. Carol Y April 29, 2014 at 7:21 pm #

I like the Celebration panel or the lattice. The on-point looks ‘crowded’.

  256. Liz Engman April 29, 2014 at 7:25 pm #

All three look great, but the Straight Set has more impact, to me–really shows off the block.

  257. KT April 29, 2014 at 7:28 pm #

  263. Elaine Gates April 29, 2014 at 8:00 pm #

I prefer the celebration on point. It just speaks more to me than the others. They are all lovely and would certainly challenge my meager skills. If I win I will put the fabrics to good use in my own freedom quilt.

  264. Laura McFall April 29, 2014 at 8:02 pm #

All three are beautiful and sparkle like fireworks! I think I like #1 the best – straight set, but looks like it’s on point to me…. Thank you for the helpful quilting tips – I’m anxious to try them!

  267. Nancy April 29, 2014 at 8:13 pm #

Those quilts are so pretty; but I think the straight set #1 is my favorite. Am looking forward to all of your helpful tips for machine quilting. Took one class with my machine and it was so much fun, but don’t have the courage to tackle a quilt or even a tablerunner yet.

  268. Lee April 29, 2014 at 8:13 pm #

I love the Celebration version! thank you!!

  269. natashag00 April 29, 2014 at 8:14 pm #

  270. Bev Smith April 29, 2014 at 8:26 pm #

  271. Carol April 29, 2014 at 8:27 pm #

I like the straight set the best because it fills the top. Thanks.

  272. Bridget April 29, 2014 at 8:33 pm #

  274. Mary April 29, 2014 at 8:46 pm #

I love the on point quilt and it is my goal to make an on point as my next major project. The design is beautiful.

  275. judy April 29, 2014 at 8:48 pm #

The celebration panel is my favorite with the focus where it should be… on the flag… the symbol under which many have died defending! Thank you to our military! May God eternally bless you! Beautiful quilt!

    • ritainalaska April 29, 2014 at 9:08 pm #

i much prefer the on point setting … some blocks look better on point, adds eye appeal.

  276. Martha Bradford Bossong April 29, 2014 at 8:53 pm #

I love the Stonehenge Celebration straight-set quilt best of the three. However they are all beautiful.

  277. hydrangia April 29, 2014 at 9:00 pm #

Although I like all three settings, I think I would say that I like the on-point setting the best. Nice, clean, and dramatic statement. Thank you for the opportunity to possibly win a copy of Vol. 9.

  278. cdahlgren2013 April 29, 2014 at 9:01 pm #

Love them all, but would pick the on point version as my favorite. Wonderful, wonderful fabric and block design.

  279. Karen Dumont April 29, 2014 at 9:05 pm #

I love all the choices, but #1 is the best!!!

  280. Renata April 29, 2014 at 9:06 pm #

Celebrations straight set. Love the feel of the fabric

  282. Karen April 29, 2014 at 9:23 pm #

My favorite is the straight-set. I think the diagonal lines add interest and movement.

  283. Barbara S. April 29, 2014 at 9:24 pm #

They are all beautiful but I prefer the Celebration straight-set quilt. I am very hesitant about free motion quilting but have decided that this year, I will give it a try. I will practice like you recommend until I feel comfortable doing it. I’m excited about learning something new. Thank you for your blog.

  284. Linda Jerome April 29, 2014 at 9:31 pm #

I love the on point one, they are all beautiful

    • Susan Y. April 29, 2014 at 9:33 pm #

      Straight set is my favorite.

  285. Janine Marie April 29, 2014 at 9:39 pm #

I like the straight set–because I like the overall diagonal look of that quilt. Just want you to know I overcame my fear of free motion quilting by jumping in with little projects. I use a treadle sewing machine and it is SEW FUN. Today I made some quilted fabric (little stipples) for a little clutch purse. I was actually able to quilt satin with regular sewing thread (because that was all I had in the right color) and it worked beautifully!!

  286. Andresa April 29, 2014 at 9:41 pm #

I like the #1 layout the best… the straight-set layout that looks like it’s on-point.

  287. patwade April 29, 2014 at 9:42 pm #

I like the on point quilt the best. I haven’t done an on point pattern in a while, and this one is very interesting.

  288. Ann Flower April 29, 2014 at 9:46 pm #

I like the one using the panel. Probably need to do that one fir my Navy grandson.

  289. Gwen Wehner April 29, 2014 at 9:46 pm #

I like the straight set layout best. Great block!

  290. Kathy W April 29, 2014 at 9:58 pm #

I love the straight set quilt… the movement actually makes it appear to be set on point. In fact, I had to really look at it several times to be sure it wasn’t mis-labeled. LOL. Thanks for sponsoring the blog tour. I love it!

  291. Sarah April 29, 2014 at 9:58 pm #

I love, love, love the straight set quilt, because I love nine patches, stars and irish chain, and this one combines all three! Thanks for the giveaway, and showing your beautiful quilts.

  292. Maxine April 29, 2014 at 10:02 pm #

  294. SewCalGal April 29, 2014 at 10:06 pm #

All of your layouts are really beautiful, but I’m drawn more to the one on point.

  295. VickiT April 29, 2014 at 10:11 pm #

All three of these quilts are just beautiful. I think by a slight edge, however that I like Celebration straight-set quilt the most.

  299. Linda Hubbard April 29, 2014 at 10:25 pm #

I like them all, but I prefer the first one- straight set with “chain” running diagonally. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of Vol.9.

  300. Pat Evans April 29, 2014 at 10:32 pm #

I like them all, but my favorite is the celebration panel quilt. Very 4th of July. Love the Stonehenge line.

  301. Sherry Phillips Creech April 29, 2014 at 10:38 pm #

I love the very patriotic quilt with the panel.

  302. Nancysue April 29, 2014 at 10:42 pm #

I really like your block placement in layout #3 with using it as a border effect around the panel, but i know I’m going to be using the on point layout as well. Wonderful Block and wonderful fabric! Kudos!!

  303. Diane Heller April 29, 2014 at 10:54 pm #

I like the quilt setting with the panel in the center. This incorporates piecing of the stars and the flag panel adds to the theme of the fabric. Would love to own these fabrics

  304. Betty Harden April 29, 2014 at 10:56 pm #

I like #1 straight set blocks, but all are lovely.

  305. Terri Tresise April 29, 2014 at 11:07 pm #

I like the Celebration Panel Quilt. I like the way it frames the panel and the celebration fabric stars rock the border.

  306. Linda Bourcet April 29, 2014 at 11:09 pm #

I like the straight set. It looks more ‘complicated’ although it is as easy ( or easier) than the on-point one. So my vote is for #1.

  307. Loretta T April 29, 2014 at 11:09 pm #

    I like the straight set.

    • Lisa Rogers April 29, 2014 at 11:13 pm #

I like the second quilt the best. All of the quilts are beautiful.

  308. Linda Wierenga April 29, 2014 at 11:24 pm #

I like the celebration straight set. I am so grateful for this blog hop lots of info and beautiful quilty goodness… Just starting out machine quilting.. My husband thinks I need a long arm but I think I need to practice on my sewing machine before jumping into the fire..lol.. I will deff be following ya.. Great stuff so exciting!!!

  309. Steph April 29, 2014 at 11:32 pm #

The panel quilt is the one that catches my eye most.

  310. Karen Martin April 29, 2014 at 11:35 pm #

It’s hard to choose, but I think the straight set is my favorite.

  311. Kelly Warriner-Simpson April 29, 2014 at 11:36 pm #

I love the first one, stars in an irish chain. Variation of the Irish Chain were what first drew me to quilting in the first place. I also know what you mean about bloggers talking and not knowing if anyone is listening. I just figure I talk to myself while sewing anyway, I may as well let other people listen in

    • Althea Klosterman April 29, 2014 at 11:56 pm #

I love the red white and blue combination but I really like the number 1, I need to put one of these quilts on my bucket list!!! I hope I get that far to completing all of on my wish list.

  312. sara April 29, 2014 at 11:48 pm #

    sara

  313. FluffyPuppyScarfs April 29, 2014 at 11:51 pm #

I am so tossed between the on-point and the panel!

  314. Doris Worthen April 29, 2014 at 11:51 pm #

The first quilt is a really striking quilt. The on-point quilt is one that I would have more problems constructing but the straight-set quilt is the type that I am more familiar with and therefore like that type of set. Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this drawing.

  315. Cecilia April 29, 2014 at 11:58 pm #

I like the top one.Thank you for the chance to win.

  316. Annie April 30, 2014 at 12:00 am #

  320. Julie Zeigler April 30, 2014 at 12:12 am #

I really liked the quilt with the center panel. It just resonated with me/

  321. greggcolson April 30, 2014 at 12:13 am #

I like the Celebration on point setting the best. It seems to be the most calming to me and the placement if the colors really helps reinforce the calm. I am new to quilting and am just trying my hand at a pattern from “More Loose Change” using charm squares to form the blocks. It’s kind if strange to be a guy quilter…seems like there aren’t many of us out there. But I’m not letting that stop me. Thank you for creating great patterns like this for us beginners to follow. It helps inspire us to keep going inspires of the fears and challenges that quilting can create!

  322. Elaine M. April 30, 2014 at 12:37 am #

They’re all pretty and so different, but I like the straight-set quilt best, I think.

  323. Pamela Reim April 30, 2014 at 12:42 am #

Hard to choose but I like the straight set best. thks for particpating in this.

Love number 1… I have two Iraq war veteran sons who I’d love to make these for.

  329. Gloria S. April 30, 2014 at 2:54 am #

I like the straight-set one the best – it just pops out!

  330. Kathy S. April 30, 2014 at 3:49 am #

Patti — Thanks for your advice on how to be a better quilter. Funny… our local quilt guild has a “to be quilted” box at our clubhouse. I always grab the big quilts and use my good Circle Lord templates on them because I am very confident with those designs. BUT, just like you said, practice on panels. This week I just happened to find five panels in the box. The downside is that I need to make backs and bind them all too. BUT I will just learn more and more. I typically pick something new I want to try and just go for it on the panels.

  331. Barbara Young April 30, 2014 at 4:07 am #

I love the straight set the best, but #3 is running a close second. Thanks for a great block and for sponsoring this blog hop. Sponsors like you make the hops a lot more fun. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  332. Sue April 30, 2014 at 4:22 am #

I like #1 the best, The way that the straight set quilt looks like it is on point is quite interesting. Never have enough Stonehenge, esp. the kids line for my grandkids.

  333. Martha Hepburn April 30, 2014 at 5:27 am #

I really like them all, but I think I like the on point one best. Thanks for the chance to win.

  334. lenorew1 April 30, 2014 at 7:21 am #

  335. sherrye55 April 30, 2014 at 8:24 am #

I absolutely LOVE the first one! And thanks for the giveaway!!!!

  336. mtngurl1 April 30, 2014 at 9:01 am #

My goodness! I finally made it down to the bottom of the page LOL. I like the straight set one, because I am in love with Irish chain quilts, and this looks like a variation on the theme of an irish chain. Thanks for the giveaway!

  337. Fran Mac April 30, 2014 at 9:35 am #

Love them all, their quilt!. But to pick one it would be the One Point one. These would make great Quilts of Valor! Thanks for the chance to win!

I like the straight set the best.

  339. sharon April 30, 2014 at 9:48 am #

My favorite is #3, I like the panel surrounded with the blocks.

  343. Betty April 30, 2014 at 11:15 am #

I like the 1st one with straight setting. It looks surprisingly more “on point” than the 2nd one.

  344. Karen April 30, 2014 at 11:51 am #

Love your block and what you had to say about free motion quilting. It takes practice to gain the confidence. I find doodling helps, too, with muscle memory. Thanks for putting me in the giveaway.

  345. Jennifer Ciaccio April 30, 2014 at 12:05 pm #

While all are beautiful, my favorite is the one with the panel. There are so many wonderful panels out there, but sometimes I have no idea what to do with it. You did a great job!

  346. TJ April 30, 2014 at 12:40 pm #

I like the panel quilt! It is a great use of a panel as well as a great block setting. It also looks the most patriotic.

  347. Pat V. April 30, 2014 at 1:21 pm #

I really love this block used as aborder for the panel.. That’s the version I’m going to try.

  348. marge April 30, 2014 at 2:10 pm #

  350. Madeline April 30, 2014 at 3:38 pm #

  351. dquilterguy April 30, 2014 at 3:38 pm #

I love the Celebration straight-set quilt, because of the diagonal lines created with the alternate block. It would make a wonderful Quilt of Valor project.

  352. Janis T April 30, 2014 at 4:12 pm #

Wow, I like them all! My favorite would be the on point setting.

  353. Karen April 30, 2014 at 5:09 pm #

I like the straight set quilt the most because that is giving that lovely diagonal line of squares across the quilt. Thank you for the chance to win!

  354. Agnes Gates April 30, 2014 at 5:51 pm #

I like the straight set quilt, just looks really good to my eye.

I liked all of them, but specially Panel of Celebration

  358. Susie De Soto April 30, 2014 at 8:48 pm #

  359. Janet Mercer-Ciravola April 30, 2014 at 9:00 pm #

I like the straight set. And thank you for putting yourself out there and trying to help people get over their fears. Any opportunity to help others is a fine quality.

  360. Jamie Todhunter April 30, 2014 at 9:52 pm #

I like the straight set quilt best. The panel seems too busy and the one on point seems off balance to my eye. Thank you for a chance to win.

  361. Trudi April 30, 2014 at 11:38 pm #

#1 for me too. I love the way the diagonal lattice pattern makes it look like it’s on point when it isn’t!

  362. Cheryl April 30, 2014 at 11:59 pm #

Celebration on point is my favorite.

  363. Bev Hernandez May 1, 2014 at 12:07 am #

    The first one.

  367. Diann Cornell May 1, 2014 at 1:12 pm #

I like them all, but the straight set (#1) was my favorite. Looks like lots of the other commenters agree with me!

  368. Jill MCCaughey May 1, 2014 at 1:19 pm #

Patti, my favourite is the on-point setting, partially because you have fewer blocks to make and can get on to the next one you love and are dying to make!!

  369. Sarah Strom May 1, 2014 at 1:50 pm #

I like #1 the best. Although it’s a straight-set, it has lots of diagonal movement, which I love.

  383. barbara corbitt May 2, 2014 at 8:50 am #

i love all three, i am including the one with the panel too. i love to see quilts that start with a panel. i love both layouts but i have to say the on point one is more eye catching to me. i must have some sort of deslexia, because every time i make a quilt on point i wind up with a lop sided quilt and have to have a meeting with my old friend the mr. seam ripper. you did a great job on your block, congrats on getting it published babscorbitt@gmail.com

  384. vwlady54Janet Frank May 2, 2014 at 9:18 am #

I really like the on point layout.

  395. Quilting Tangent May 2, 2014 at 11:17 am #

The 1st one, the diagonal makes nice movement in the quilt.

  396. Deb Frazier May 2, 2014 at 11:18 am #

I like all three, but would do the Celebration panel quilt first, if I could find a good panel to showcase. Your design just fits that purpose. Thanks.

  397. Lee Ann L. May 2, 2014 at 11:36 am #

I am loving the straight-set layout (#1) best. Congratulations!

  412. Donna Joy May 2, 2014 at 3:52 pm #

I need all the tips I can get so that I will do a good enough job of my first machine quilted baby quilt. I sure don’t want to have to rip out the stitches.
Your first quilt is my favorite.

  413. Susan in OK May 2, 2014 at 3:58 pm #

Thank you for the advice. The light bulb came on for me one day about practice, practice, practice. I realized that I had been sewing since I was at least ten and I thought if I had been practicing FMQ as long as I’d been sewing which is basically quilting, I would be good at it, too. Thanks for sharing the multiple settings. I think we get caught up on one setting, too. You are generous to share.

  414. Linda B May 2, 2014 at 4:11 pm #

They’re all lovely, but I think I like the straight set best!

  415. Rina May 2, 2014 at 4:11 pm #

I like the first one the best followed by the third one

  416. Charlene McCullough May 2, 2014 at 4:56 pm #

I will definitely read Vol 9 from cover to cover. The tip about FMQ is invaluable. I don’t have a longarm and I’m petrified to try on my machine. Good idea about the panels. I will try that. I like version #2 On Point. Thanks for all your sharing.

  417. Elizabeth S May 2, 2014 at 5:24 pm #

#1 catches my eye and I really like it.

  418. Nancy May 2, 2014 at 5:39 pm #

  423. nancyangerer May 2, 2014 at 7:04 pm #

I like the straight setting which forms a diagonal grid. The on point setting forms a straight grid like a tic-tac-toe grid.

  424. Gwendolyn Clark May 2, 2014 at 7:51 pm #

I know I commented a couple of days ago and it says comments end May 1st. The Quilty Pleasures Blog says # 6.Patty Carey today May 2nd. So I’m hoping this is another entry to the giveaway.

  425. Chantal Lavictoire May 2, 2014 at 7:54 pm #

  426. Karen in Breezy Point May 2, 2014 at 8:04 pm #

Hard to decide between one and two–love them both!

  427. Sally H. May 2, 2014 at 8:10 pm #

They are all great quilts, but I will vote for #3 – Celebration Panel Quilt. Love the block and the colors you have chosen!

  428. Sandy May 2, 2014 at 8:13 pm #

No. 1 grabbed me immediately; it has more motion. Is it the small red squares on point that does it?

  429. Deb May 2, 2014 at 8:20 pm #

I love the Celebration – Straight Set.

  430. Debbie P May 2, 2014 at 8:25 pm #

    Cute block!!
I agree that sometimes we have to face our hesitations and then just try things out – especially when it comes to getting out of our comfort zone with different colours & styles in quilting & sewing!!

  431. Julie Fetcho May 2, 2014 at 9:15 pm #

Love the one with the panel

  432. Wendy May 2, 2014 at 10:10 pm #

I like the first view. Great Block! Thanks!

  434. Elizabeth Monahan May 2, 2014 at 10:22 pm #

  435. Susan Gilliam May 2, 2014 at 10:35 pm #

I like the first straight-set quilt. I would love to win a copy of Quiltmakers 100 Blocks #9 because I can’t find it in the stores here.

  436. cdahlgren2013 May 2, 2014 at 11:22 pm #

I like the first quilt, and I’m hoping that you meant May 2nd, because that’s when Quilty Pleasures has your block posted.

  439. Liz May 2, 2014 at 11:37 pm #

  443. jskbloomers May 3, 2014 at 12:00 am #

I like the straight set the best. It sang to me the minute I saw it! Thanks so much for the chance to win.

  444. Penny May 3, 2014 at 12:03 am #

  445. Tracine May 3, 2014 at 12:49 am #

I like the Celebration Straight-set. I love the look. So striking.

  446. Lynn McIndoe May 3, 2014 at 1:35 am #

I like the middle one – on point. Great block, and one I could see myself making

  447. Rachell Reilly May 3, 2014 at 1:45 am #

I adore Stonehenge! I wish it wasnt so expensive. I love the Americana and the Bless America panels.
My favorite layout is the Straight set, because it looks on-point and resembles an Irish Chain. I love the whole thing–it’s one of those quilts that just all works together!

  451. Susan Brooks May 3, 2014 at 11:39 am #

Celebration is my favorite, but really I like them all. So little time, so many quilts syndrome.

  452. Claudia May 3, 2014 at 2:08 pm #

I think I left my two cents here earlier. I love blocks with diagonal movement, but my first thought when I saw all of these was “Quilts of Valor”. Love the inspiration.

  453. Barbara May 4, 2014 at 12:25 am #

I liked the panel one best. My son is in the army and the panel shows how I feel towards all our military and our nation.

  454. genipickens May 4, 2014 at 2:51 am #
