My wintery backyard view today
Fellow Quilters,
Happy New Year! After a bit of family time over the holidays I am chomping at the bit to get back into sewing/quilting mode, and I hope you are too 😊. After a fresh snowfall last night, today is pretty-as-a-picture but cold – a perfect reason to hunker down in my sewing space with a cuppa and a new block to make.
It is also Quilt Block Mania day – yay! That means a new batch of free quilt block patterns, including one by yours truly. If you’re popping in from another blogger’s site, you can subscribe at the link on the right.
The theme this month is pets, and chances are that if you don’t have one, you know someone who does. #1 Son has a cat that just had a litter of 4 kittens (so cute!!), and #2 Son has an adorable dog. There are so many options for pets, and this month’s color palette inspired me to design a block featuring rabbits. You can get my Bunny Buddies pattern here.
You could easily turn the rabbits into other animals by changing the shape of their ears. Here’s a nice throw-size comfy quilt perfect for your favorite pet-lover.

Make 12 blocks for an easy 53″ x 67″ throw – bunnies everywhere!!
You could even make a pet sampler quilt using blocks from the other participating designers this month. Find the links to their blocks here:

Speaking of samplers, it’s not too late to join my Cottage Sampler quilt-along.

Sign up for the quilt-along at Patti’s Patchwork
We officially started last week but the sewing doesn’t begin until this week. It runs until March 16, by which time you’ll have a drop-dead gorgeous quilt top ready to be quilted. You can sign up here and get your pattern here. I’ve been testing out some video recording to include in my weekly quilt-along newsletters that are chock-full of how-to-tips. Bonus: there are weekly prizes 😊

Quilt Bee at Sea Jan 30 – Feb 18, 2023
The much-anticipated Quilt Bee at Sea Hawaiian cruise that I’m teaching on, scheduled for next month, has been postponed for a year due to Covid-related issues ☹. The good news, however, is that sign-ups for it have re-opened 😊. If cruising to this tropical paradise next February 2023 while quilting-’til-you-wilt on sea days sounds like something you’d love to do, find out more here. It will be SO. MUCH. FUN.
Last but definitely not least, I have a project in the January/February 2022 issue of Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine – woohoo!!

With Heartfelt Thanks featured in the Jan/Feb Love of Quilting magazine
I am always honored to have a quilt featured in a magazine, and it is an extra-special honor when that quilt is selected as a Quilts of Valor project paying tribute to our valued veterans. This quilt was made with Northcott’s Stonehenge Stars & Stripes, supporting QOV, and is easy enough for anyone who wants to show their gratitude. You could say that Quilts of Valor quilts are a pet project of mine!

Love of Quilting January/February 2022
Fons & Porter has given me a copy of this issue to give away. For a chance to win it, please leave a comment below telling me about your favorite or current pet project. Deadline: midnight January 11, 2022. I can’t wait to read your comments!
Until next time,
Patti
I am working on a Christmas quilt that has a couple of cat blocks in it.
I want to finish a table runner for Easter that has bunnies on it
I just finished one new Xmas stockings for our 2 furbabies. Such fun! Thanks Patti
Good Morning Patti, on your pet projects theme, we recently adopted an 11 year old toothless 6 lb Chihuahua from Happy’s Place in Strathroy. He came home with us on Dec 26 and in preparation I purchased an extra small winter coat for his bathroom/walk necessities. He hates it and won’t walk in it! So to my quilting room I went and made him a three layer coat made to measure with fleece next to him, batting in the middle and blue plaid flannel outside (just like a tiny quilt)! Hand sewed a button hole opening for his harness rings to come through and some Velcro fasteners under his neck and belly. He looks SO cute in it and he will walk in it, which he needs to keep him warm
as we live in Kincardine along Lake Huron where the wind ALWAYS blows strong! Enjoy your newsletters😀 sorry your cruise was postponed. Covid😖
Kudos to you! Quilters are a very creative bunch 🙂
so adorable. thanks for sharing this pattern. I see some bunnies in my near future. I hear you about sewing/quilting time. I started again yesterday. Oh but it feels so good. We are hunkered down here also. 8 inches of snow and 17 degrees. brrrr too cold to go out. I was raised in the desert and still haven’t adapted to this weather.
I have the pattern and ready to start a bunny wall hanging for Easter, Nancy
I have a new kit to cut, ready to make a lap quilt.
I am just finishing up a quilt with a bear on it. It will be given to a family member as a “big bear hug” while she is coping with some medical issues. It’s the best way I know to give someone love and comfort when there isn’t much of anything I can do to change the situation.
Awww… that’s so kind!
Thank you for the cute bunnies. I need to get myself in gear and work on all the cute patterns for this month. I have been slacking off too much and I want to get something done.
Adorable!!! Thank you for sharing your talent.
