STRIP-R’s for Quilters

10 Sep

Fellow Quilters,

Today is a great day! Not only am I blogging on my site, but I am also a guest blogger on the McCall’s Quilting blog, where I am talking about my Bevels project in the November 2015 issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts (

Needless to say, I am thrilled that McCall’s has featured my quilt in this issue AND that they asked me to be a guest on their blog. The Bevels project uses one of my fave new fabrics – it’s called a STRIP-R (pronounced “stripper”), and it is a pre-printed fabric with 21 2” wide strips across the width of the fabric – think “jellyroll already sewn together”. How cool is that?!? I pitched this idea to Northcott’s Creative Director Deborah, and she has included STRIP-R’s in about a dozen current and upcoming collections so far. In fact, I am using a STRIP-R from the Porcelain Blue collection for a project in the February 2014 issue of McCall’s Quilting, out in November. Here’s what the Porcelain Blue STRIP-R looks like. I can’t show you the quilt just yet, but I will soon (it’s so pretty – classic blue and white!).

The STRIP-R that I used in the Bevels project is from the Ambience collection. Creative Director Deborah also designed and included another innovative pre-printed fabric in this collection – it is called No-Sew Circles and looks like orange peel, or interlocking circles.

Isn’t this equally cool?!? I designed 3 projects using the No-Sew Circles – they are almost as much fun to work with as the STRIP-R’s. Here are pictures of Ambience Medallion, Candied Peel and Strips of Peel (patterns are available from

One of these projects also uses STRIP-R’s. Now, if you’ve visited my blog before, you know that I like to give stuff (fabric) away. Today I would like to give away 5 packets of fabric, each containing a ¼-yd of the 8 textures plus a 1-yd piece of the STRIP-R and No-Sew Circle fabric in one of the 5 other colorways of Ambience (you can see the other colorways at Hint: the Bevels quilt uses the lagoon colorway). For a chance to win, please post a comment by midnight Friday Sept. 11 telling me which of my 3 Ambience projects uses No-Sew Circles AND STRIP-R’s, and tell me which color packet of Ambience fabrics you’d like to win. And don’t miss the chance to win a packet of fabrics on the McCall’s blog too – they are giving away packets of the lagoon colorway (click on the link at the top of this page Fto visit them).

Your Ambience Medallion uses both the STRIP-Rs and No-Sew Circles. I’d love to win the hibiscus set – although it’s hard to choose between those beautiful colours!

The Ambience Medallion uses both the strip R and no sew circles. My favorite color way is violet. What beautiful fabrics and projects.

I’d love to win the lagoon color way.

Your Ambience Medallion is the one. It is beautiful! I would have a hard time choosing but I think I would go for Emerald Isle. I’m into green lately.

Looks to me like the Ambience Medallion quilt uses both. All of the colorways are gorgeous, and I love using blender fabrics. Should I be lucky enough to win I would choose the Emerald Isle colorway.

Congratulations PattI! Ambience Medallion uses No-Circles and Strip-R’s. I like the hibiscus colour best!

I love this fabric! Such a cool idea. It looks like your ambience medallion pattern uses both fabrics.

Thanks for the chance to win some of this for ourselves!

I would have to say that your Ambience Medallion is where you have used both the No-Sew Circles and the Strip-R’s fabrics together, and it looks great! Such a cool idea! I was just looking at a couple of them at my LQS and the possibilities!!! Although I must say that I really like all of the colourways, I would LOVE to play with Twilight! Thank you for keeping us inspired!

What a concept!! And the other patterns you can do! Love Strips of Peel! And the idea to use that in the border? Awesome!! Thank you for the chance to experience this awesome line!

Wow! I love them all but my favorite is the Lagoon color way. Btw, I will be seeing you next week on the cruise. Can’t wait.

  11. Carol Enright September 10, 2015 at 9:08 am #

Porcelain Blue STRIP-R would be my color choice and Ambience Medallion looks like it uses both the Strip-R and the No sew circles.

  12. Judy Eckhardt September 10, 2015 at 9:19 am #

Ambience Medallion uses the two fabrics. I can see lots of uses and opportunity to experiment. The Twilight set would be perfect for a challenge that our guild is running this year.

Your Ambience Medallion uses both the No-Sew Circles and Strip-R’s. All the colour ways are very pretty. I think I would choose Lagoon. I’ve been holding onto a panel that has a Mythical/Aquatic theme. I think I just found the fabric its been waiting for! Congrats on your McCall’s gig!

  14. Lyn Moore September 10, 2015 at 9:48 am #

Hi Patti, I think you used the Strip-R fabric and the No Sew Circles in the Ambience Medallion quilt. I love the Lagoon colourway and the Bevels Quilt.

  15. Linda Yeager September 10, 2015 at 12:59 pm #

Your Ambience Medallion uses the Hibiscus strir-R and Emerald circles. If I win, I’d like to try the Twilight colorway.

Ambience medallion cleverly uses both, and lagoon is my fav colourway by far. Fingers crossed.

  22. kittyapprovedquilts September 11, 2015 at 3:57 pm #

Ambience Medallion uses both. I would love to win the Hibiscus or Lagoon!

  23. merlinmom1 September 25, 2015 at 4:22 pm #

Where and when do we find these fabrics?

    • Patti September 27, 2015 at 5:51 pm #

To find a shop who has the Ambience fabrics, go to Northcott’s website, put “Ambience” in the search box, and use the Product Finder icon at the top right to find a shop in your state or province who has purchased the particular fabrics that you are looking for. A chart listing the shop and which fabrics they purchased will appear – click on the shop name to get the contact information.

Thanks so much for coming to our guild in Wasaga Beach. I just loved the demo on Strip R. So simple letting the fabric do the vision. I will be on the lookout for this fabric
